Actualizing Intimacy by
Strengthening Independence and Redefining Self-Identity |
-
Do you feel
pressured to "hurry up" and find a romantic relationship?
-
Do you feel you have
to sacrifice your sense of self to make intimacy work?
-
Have you been in and
out of relationships, never quite certain what went wrong?
Given popular culture's overwhelming emphasis on romance and
sexuality, many singles feel conflicted about their self-identity,
ambivalent about basic interpersonal desires and goals. This
presentation teaches singles to see beyond external social and
cultural pressures, instead looking inward to examine basic personal
and psychological issues. The first step toward discovering and
sustaining genuine intimacy, this presentation emphasizes, is getting
to know oneself. By redefining personal boundaries and refining
life goals, participants learn to enjoy an enriched and more
interpersonally "available" self.
Knowing What You REALLY Want—Re-evaluate your interpersonal
wants, wishes and goals with increased awareness of pervasive cultural
pressures and unrealistic social models.
Recognizing Self-Defeating Relationship Patterns—Examine
current and past significant relationships, both romantic and
otherwise, for hidden, restrictive patterns of thinking, feeling and
doing.
Letting Go of Habitual Fears—Let go of limiting, self-conscious
habits and irrational worries to strengthen self-identity and open to new levels of passion
and intimacy.
