HURRY UP AND RELAX (scroll down for details)
Often, the harder we
try to improve ourselves, the further we are from our natural, spontaneous
self. In examining this essential paradox of self-improvement, this
presentation teaches attendees to approach their daily lives with enhanced
creativity and confidence, enjoying life as an artistic experiment rather
than a math exam or business meeting.

Transcending the
Paradox of Self-Improvement |
-
Do worry, stress and
anxiety distract you from the present moment?
-
Does your daily life
lack creativity and spontaneity?
-
Do you find yourself
habitually and anxiously comparing yourself to others?
Spiritual wisdom teaches us that we
are already perfect, that the only path to true happiness is by simply
being yourself. But for most individuals, trying to be yourself
is like trying to hurry up and relax, like chasing your own tail.
This dangling carrot of self-improvement is the essential dilemma of
the spiritual path. James Robbins teaches participants to
overcome this paradox by examining three habitual obstacles to
self-realization:
The Lure of
Self-Consciousness—Most individuals live their lives in a state of
self-conscious distraction, failing to connect to the present moment
and enjoy the immediacy and artistic subtlety of personal experience.
Communicating Eastern wisdom principles for overcoming anxious
attachment and desire, James teaches participants to better enjoy the
Here and Now, cultivating the freedom and satisfaction of living from
day to day and moment to moment.
The Lure of Safety—The
Hindu philosopher, Krishnamurti, said, "I used to be an atheist, then
I realized I was God." James teaches attendees that the divine
is inside rather than outside, and can only be realized by creative,
courageous and spontaneous action. This presentation will teach
individuals to approach their lives and relationships with an open
mind, letting go of stagnant, knee-jerk habits to energize a more
expressive, passionate personal and interpersonal environment.
The Myth of Better and Worse—Lacking
confidence and a secure sense of self, most individuals attempt to
validate themselves by compulsively comparing themselves with others.
This need to rank one another and "jockey for position" only produces
anxiety, envy and self-centeredness. Utilizing Eastern
principles of self-awareness and surrender, James teaches participants
to look deep within themselves and others to realize and enjoy the
perfection and equality of all beings.
