ABOUT JAMES AND HEATHER ROBBINS
—Dr. Laura Beard, M.D., Dallas psychiatrist Heather Robbins holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She is an experienced clinician and academic researcher, her work having appeared in numerous academic trade journals. She maintains a successful private psychotherapy practice in Dallas, TX, where she has treated hundreds of individuals, couples, families and groups. Heather specializes in two distinct areas as a therapist: psychodynamic treatment and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Psychodynamic work focuses on the significant effect of early experience, addressing profound issues of personality formation, self-identity and sexuality. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a growing, cutting-edge field, increasingly supported by insurance companies and medical institutions as it emphasizes pragmatic, systematic means of understanding and improving upon entrenched habits of thinking, feeling and doing. Unlike the majority of her colleagues, Dr. Robbins integrates both of these approaches to offer treatments that are deeply transformative yet uniquely practical. Working closely with husband James Robbins, Heather regularly offers local and national seminars, lectures and workshops. Aimed primarily at couples, these seminars apply the step-by-step methods and techniques that will be described in their upcoming relationship book, providing individuals the necessary tools to bring more passion and satisfaction to their relationships by reclaiming personal power. Heather lives in Dallas, TX with her husband and four cats. She enjoys reading and listening to music, and is a former international fashion and spokes model.
